Budget Hearing

The 2008 Budget will be presented at the Budget Hearing and Special Meeting to be held on November 12th at 8:00 p.m. The regular monthly meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. on that same evening and may reconvene after the Budget meetings are complete if necessary. The budget will be presented, possibly amended and adopted at these meetings.

Plan Commission

The Plan Commission (formerly called the Smart Growth or Citizen Commission) has nearly completed the subdivision ordinance.

Public Hearing on Subdivision Ordinance

A public hearing will be held in the near future to allow public input on the newly drafted Subdivision Ordinance. The Ordinance was drafted by the Plan Commission and will be adopted by the Board after a favorable public hearing.

Dog License Fees to Increase

The dog license fee will be increasing for 2008. The fee for spayed and neutered dogs will be $5.00 and the fee for a dog that is not spayed or neutered will be $10.00. Proof of vaccination must also be provided at the time of obtaining a license. You will get a post card at the end of the year (tax time) with directions. All dogs over the age of 5 months are required to be licensed in the State of Wisconsin. The Kennel License fee will remain at $35.00 and cover up to 12 dogs. However, the process is changing and you will now have to list each dog covered under the kennel license and show proof of vaccination for each of them. All dogs in the Town were listed and provided to the Treasurer to assist her in the dog licensing process.

Permits Required

Please remember that permits are required for the following:

Building projects/remodeling – Please contact the Clerk if you plan any building or remodeling. Building Inspections are also required for some projects to comply with the Uniform Dwelling Code. Please DO NOT start any projects without obtaining the necessary permits. An owner having a project that does not meet building code will not be issued a final occupancy permit. Checking with the inspector first can save you time and money. NEW DEVELOPMENT OF LAND OR NEW HOME PERMITS ARE NOW ISSUED BY THE PLAN COMMISSION. The Clerk will continue to issue all other permits.

Manufactured Homes – All manufactured homes (single & double wide) are required to be placed on a slab or basement the same size as the home. Manufactured homes must also be 1976 model or newer to comply with a Town ordinance citing HUD housing.

Driveways – All driveways that access Town roads require a Town permit. The County issues permits for accessing County/State roads.

Burning – Permits can be obtained from the Clerk or the Chairman. A permit is not required when there is adequate snow cover. Under dry conditions, the Town does issue a burning ban. Property owners are responsible for the cost of fire calls. A minimum fire run is $500.00 even if the fire department doesn’t actually have to put out any fire! When contacting the Town for a permit, you will be instructed how to contact the authorities to avoid a fire department response if someone else calls in a controlled burn on your property. Please keep in mind that it is illegal to burn your garbage and you should not be using a burning barrel.

Meeting Dates

Regular Monthly Board meetings are held the 2nd Monday of each month (except Jan.). All meetings are posted in three places at least 24 hours prior to the meeting. Advertised meeting notices are published in the Glenwood Tribune and include the Annual Meeting (April), Budget Meetings (November), Board of Review (May or later), etc.

Tax Collection Dates

Treasurer Susan Hitz will be collecting property taxes at the Town Hall on two Saturday mornings in January. You can pay your taxes in person at the Town Hall on January 19th or January 26th. She will be there from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on both dates.

Town Web Site

A Town web site is being created. Resident Bill Drew has volunteered to get it up and running. We hope to keep it simple so it doesn’t require a great deal of maintenance, but plan to put basic information and meeting minutes on the site.
